life through the eye of my sewing needle and very little, to be honest, about sewers

fridamaid

over at craftster.org smmarrt organized an art doll swap. there are wonderful dolls in the gallery and you can find them all HERE. i was crafting for ericas_tattoos who had some great art doll ideas on her questionnaire. two of those were "mermaid" and "frida kahlo". and it didn't take me too long to know what i wanted to make for her!
luckily frida kahlo has a very recognizeable face. im not a good artist as far as drawing goes but i was able to do this face using some micron markers. the body fabric came from Rock Paper Scissors which carries utterly fantastic fabric. the owner there has awesome taste.

i was lucky to already have the perfect glass bead for her hair.  I used jewelry findings for her earrings.
i sewed a little bit of a shawl for her and on the back i put a frida kahlo quote that i found that i really liked.

altered paintbrush

over at craftster.org i joined the altered paintbrush swap that was organized by downtownmonsters. my partner was TheBrokenButterfly who had many terrific themes listed on her questionnaire.

the first two that she listed were Halloween and Pokemon, so I decided to do a mashup of those two themes. the swap called for using 2" paint brushes which are very affordable: mine was .99 at the local hardware store.

the paintbrush became a pokemon speed racer.

and the rider of the brush was this young witch:

as i wrote to Butterfly in my enclosed note, why should young wizards have all the fun?

a morsbag, a mug rug and a wrist pincushion

leslie and i organized our second morsbag swap on craftster. i was partnered with the fabulous sharalee and this is what i made for her:

a morsbag, of course! i went with four different fabrics for the bag and a fifth fabric for the handles. find out all about morsbags and how to make them here.

sharalee likes owls and listed a mug rug as an extra that she would like to have. this owl has one surprised eye that's perfect for a beverage. i also sent along a large kit kat which will fit nicely on the owl, too.

sharalee mentioned pin cushions and i found a great tute for a wrist pincushion here

she's a star wars fan and i already had some cool star wars blueprint fabric in my stash : )
